Abstract
Poverty has been one of the phenomena that occurred throughout the history of Indonesia, poverty in Indonesia has not had a strong strategy from the government for poverty alleviation that is appropriate for the people of Indonesia in favour of the poor. Bukittinggi has a relatively low percentage of poor people at 4.6%-6.8%. When compared to the Mentawai Islands Regency, the poverty rate is very high at 13.97%-19.74%, which means that the level of welfare of the community in meeting the needs of living standards is lower than the City of Bukittinggi. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyse the effect of the Human Development Index, population, and unemployment rate on the poverty rate in Bukittinggi City. This research uses the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method with multiple linear regression models. The results showed that the Human Development Index variable and the open unemployment rate had a significant effect on the poverty rate in Bukittinggi City, while the population variable had no significant effect on the poverty rate in Bukittinggi City.
